You've always been told photo process required zinc etching plates. Etching zinc is dangerous and toxic, and in certain studios just not worth the risk.  Learn to apply your own photo resist to copper etching plates, and enjoy less toxic etching alternatives. Unlike zinc plates,  you can completely remove the photo emulsion after etching, and are abke to add line etch, aquatint, and other techniques beyond the photo process.

We will cover: Basic plate preparation, applying the photo film, exposing and developing, etching and printing, and removing the emulsion and re-working the plate. Etching/Intaglio and printmaking is experience is beneficial but by no means necessary, beginners welcome!

What you Bring: Design ideas, images on transparency, and fine printing paper (described in detail during the first class).

What we provide: Plates, necessary chemicals, printing ink and proofing paper.

Students will be allocated 12 hours of studio access to be used during the run of the class or within 3 months after the end of the class (schedule permitting)
